Blue Mahoe House

The dramatic one — cliff edge, clear water below, and sunsets that stop conversation.

Blue Mahoe House stands where Negril turns vertical — the West End cliffs, with a garden of blue mahoe and bougainvillea and clear water waiting below. There's no sand here; a ladder bolted to the rock takes you straight into the best swimming on the island. All three bedrooms look west, which matters, because the sunsets here genuinely stop conversation. It's the house our returning guests argue over.

Life here

How the days go

Swimmer seen from the cliff top — clear turquoise water over reef

Down the ladder

The morning swim is a ritual here — down the ladder, into water so clear you can watch your own shadow cross the reef. Snorkels hang by the cliff gate. Most guests are in before breakfast and can't quite explain why.

Cut bougainvillea on the doorstep, blue mahoe shade across the path

A garden that earns its keep

The blue mahoe trees give the house its name and its shade; the bougainvillea gives it the color. Breakfast happens under one, the afternoon read under the other, and the gardener leaves cut flowers by the door without being asked.

The six o'clock quiet

Around six, everyone drifts to the cliff edge with a drink in hand. The sun drops into open sea — no islands, nothing in the way — and for a minute nobody says anything. It happens every night, and it never wears off.

The neighborhood

Where you are

Map — West End cliffs placement, walking radius to cliff bars and the lighthouse

The house sits on the quieter reach of West End Road — One Love Drive, as everyone calls it — past the cliff bars and a few minutes shy of the lighthouse. Restaurants where dinner comes with the sunset are a short walk in either direction, and Rick's Café is close enough to hear the cheer when the divers jump. Seven Mile Beach is ten minutes by car, for the days you want sand underfoot instead of clear water below.
